JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Front-of-House Team Members

Reports to: Audience Services Manager
Type: Part-time

Purpose of the job: Execute sales, serve food and beverages, and maintain nightly inventory in The Rep’s lobby bar and Foster’s Lounge. Assist in front-of-house management.

Key Responsibilities

– For each show act as the bartender
– Count inventory for all items for sale and consumables in Foster’s and/or the lobby bar
– Adhering to all food safety and quality regulations
– Arrive at least 2 hours prior to curtain to set up concessions in Foster’s and prep hot beverages for both concession areas.
– Taking inventory and ordering supplies to ensure bar and tables are well-stocked.
– Prep concession pre-orders for intermission.
– Clean and re-stock after the performance
– Assist house management with anything they may need after the performance
– Coordinate with The Rep’s marketing and/or development staff to serve at private donor/sponsor events in Foster’s Lounge

Physical Requirements and Qualifications

– Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
– Lift 50+ lbs.
– Stand for long hours
– Keep track of nightly cash and card sales and profit
– Keep track of nightly inventory
– Use or learn to use the Square POS system
– Handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons, balancing the cash register

The work schedule will be determined on a production-by-production basis. Required shifts are during performances on nights and weekends.

Reports to: Audience Services Manager
Type: Part-time

Description: The Box Office staff is the primary point of contact for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre patrons. Box Office Associates should be comfortable communicating with the public in person, over the phone, and by email, providing friendly and efficient customer service. Box Office Associates should be proficient with Microsoft Office programs and a quick study of other specialized software.

This position will provide the opportunity to gain theatre administration experience. Skills such as patron relationship management, production scheduling, and ticket processing can be acquired through this position. Additional general office capabilities will be acquired and advanced, including database management, digital file management, and professional communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Phones
– Answering calls as within two rings as possible
– Process ticket and subscription package sales over the phone
– Direct calls to other departments

Greeting visitors
– Process ticket and subscription package sales in person to walk-in customers
– Receive and distribute mail and packages
– Direct guests, board members, visiting artists, and others who come into the building

Database
– Use the ticketing software and patron database (Spektrix) to process sales
– Keep patron records accurate and up to date with spelling, contact information, and household members
– Create lists of specific patrons as needed

Administrative
– Assist with special projects, i.e. database cleanup, file organization (digital and physical), research projects
– Assist Audience Services Manager to keep the box office organized and stocked

General
– Answer patron questions about The Rep including production history, future productions, and general questions about attending a show at the theatre
– Become knowledgeable about current productions to provide information to patrons
– Become knowledgeable about The Rep’s ticketing structure: prices, subscription levels, discount options, membership opportunities
– Be an ambassador for The Rep and the performing arts

Reports to: Audience Services Manager
Type: Part-time

Description: The House Manager oversees all public areas of the theatre, ensuring that the experience of each patron is enjoyable and safe. The House Manager also coordinates and manages the volunteer ushers needed for each performance.

Key Responsibilities

House Management
– Supervise all performances, with priority on the mainstage space in the event of
overlapping events
– Ensure all public areas are tidy for audience arrival
– Prepare the downstairs concessions bar
– Ensure handicapped seating is prepared if needed
– Coordinate with the Box Office and Stage Management on the running of the show – each night’s needs may be different and problems may arise. Quick thinking, communication, and flexibility are important.
– Resolve ticketing or seating issues as they arise
– Manage late seating
– Conduct a headcount and ticket stub count
– Prep for intermission. This can include restocking anything that concessions may need, baking cookies, preparing pre-orders, etc.
– Supervise a timely intermission
– Strike the concessions bar
– Reset any banks used and total the concessions profits
– Be in the house at the end of the performance to supervise the audience’s exit and clear the house of all audience members to allow the crew to come out and begin their post-show work
– Clean the house with the ushers
– Restock concessions for the following day’s performance
– Prepare the nightly House Report
– Ensure that the building’s various entrances/exits are locked and secure at the end of each evening
– Assist the Bar Manager with serving and restocking for special post-show events, such as Opening Night Galas, receptions, or after parties
– On two-show days, tidy and restock the restrooms between shows
– Follow emergency procedures and communicate with the appropriate parties in the event of an emergency (fire, severe weather, medical emergency)

Volunteer Coordination
– In the event of cancellations, reschedules, or added performances, seek out the fill-in
usher list
– Each night, orient the concession ushers & conduct a meeting with the floor ushers to
provide any important information for the production & give area assignments.

Physical Requirements and Qualifications
– Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
– Be on feet for long hours
– Travel up and down stairs
– Lift 40 lbs
– Excellent communication skills
– Manage large groups of people
– Previous experience in theatre/FOH preferred but not required

We are always looking for talented theatre artists and technicians to help bring our productions to life. The need for carpenters, scenic painters, costume stitchers, lighting technicians, run crew, and other positions is critical for every production. The Arkansas Rep holds seasonal auditions each year in Little Rock, that are open to both union and non-union performers. Dates and information are announced here on our website as well as in local newspapers, and our social media channels. Actors Equity Association makes related postings, for both performers and Stage Manager submissions, via their regular channels.

Additional production-specific auditions, both virtual and in-person, local and in other cities, are announced individually.
